2016 Community Carnival Series

Plans are progressing smoothly for the staging of a series of community Carnival events.
“For any carnival to thrive successfully", the festivity, requires the participation of the people, communities and the island on a whole.

The concept of “community carnival” is to give communities a taste of what to expect for Carnival 2016 and seek the involvement of persons within the varying communities for Carnival 2016,” says Carnival Chairman Maurice Merchant.

Community carnival will consist of 2016 Soca and calypso music, Dance, Pan and the splendor of Mas. This year will highlight a newly added feature called “Heritage Dishes”.
A friendly rivalry will be encouraged between communities competing for the tastiest, “fish water broth” Fungi, Cassi and Salt fish, which could be changed to Ling fish, Red herring or Mackerel as favored by the community as well as the indigenous ‘season rice,” said Festivals Commission member Tanny Rose Jr.

At every community carnival a steel band will be present to create a festive atmosphere beginning at 5pm concluding at 7pm.
At 7pm, there will be performances from Calypsonians -Juniors and Seniors as well as a Mas troupe, culminating with a performance from top bands across the island.

The activity will be interlaced with the MC’s sampling the delicacies on offer.
The events will be recorded or broadcasted live by ABS Television , who has come on board to cover all the community carnival events.
This year will feature five community carnival events to include Parham, Urlings, Liberta, Dredge Bay and All Saints villages. Community Carnival will begin on the 28th of May 2016 in Parham and conclude on the July 8th 2016 in the village of All Saints.
